Pitlocrhy – Isle of Skye

June 14th

Today was a travel day. We set off from a rainy Pitlochry at ten in the morning. The weather greatly influenced our route choice. With visibility dropping below safe limits and rain lashing against the windows, it was not advisable to drive on small mountain roads. Out there, you can’t see much of anything in those conditions. So, we took the fastest route to Inverness, where a few breaks in the rain did little to lift our spirits.

Yesterday, we calculated the number of travel days left and realized we had five days remaining for Scotland. Isle of Skye is our top destination here, so we decided to head straight there from Inverness!

On the way, we stopped for a sandwich and an Afri-cafe by the shore of Loch Ness. The famous lake didn’t really attract us. Steep, overgrown banks… and the rain on top of that!

When we reached the seaside, we were starving! I chose fish & chips at a seaside café, while Eva opted for seafood with a baked potato. After eating in the car, we continued to a campsite on the island (Camping Skye). Surprisingly, there’s a good internet connection here, so we’ll be able to catch up on the news and other updates. Things are always happening back home—and elsewhere, of course.

Tomorrow and the day after are Isle of Skye days. I’m already looking forward to it… hopefully the weather will be decent enough to enjoy the scenery. There’s plenty of it here!
