May 9th
Thank you for the morning – a morning of feeling good, that is. There’s nothing to complain about, the shower works, and breakfast was nice. So, we decided to have a proper tourist day. An English breakfast in a French market, walking in the old town among thousands of others enjoying their day off. There were local markets set up in the square. All sorts of knick-knacks and gadgets were for sale. We didn’t buy anything. I don’t think we need anything except for a bread knife, which we couldn’t find here.
After the square, the market atmosphere continued with vegetable, fruit, meat, fish, cheese, and other shops at Marché Provençal. The scent in the area was quite intriguing. As we moved towards the cheerful brass band music, we found a local band playing. It was great fun to watch and listen to. I’ve heard more “polished” music, but the band’s performance was quite enjoyable to watch.
After returning to the city center, I booked a haircut for myself, and we went to wait for Rasmus and Heini at the market café. It was a joyful meeting with Rasmus as well. We chose our meals and drinks from the menu. We had plenty to talk about – and just joyful togetherness overall.
After the meal, we started walking, trying to stay on the streets we hadn’t yet explored. Eva also decided she needed a hairdresser. While waiting for Eva, we sat in a local café where I tasted Pastis for the first time in my life. It tasted like Ouzo or Pernod to me. I felt it could have used a cola drink instead of water as a chaser.
When I went to the barber, the rest of the group continued to the neighboring café. With my hair shortened as planned, I joined them to continue our evening together. The weather was really nice, blessing us throughout the day until the evening. A T-shirt, trousers, and sandals were an excellent choice of attire. And it wasn’t hot at all!
In the morning, we’re heading back to Vellerone, so our evening plan includes a bit of packing, dinner, and then straight to bed, so we can wake up early. Departure is already at 8:30.
Don’t worry Finland! Summer is creeping towards you there!
