Cawood & Selby

May 30th

Climate change is in Finland. It’s 30 degrees warm there. In Britain, it’s windy and rainy. Here, everything is as usual – except for the increasing winds and rains, which are now everyday occurrences, and the long heatwaves in summer that we hardly had before. The needs of the economy seem to override everything else now, so measures to slow down climate change must step aside for more important matters. Humanity has more pressing concerns, such as killing each other and accelerating the arms race that makes it possible.

Our important task today was setting up Jette’s patio furniture for the summer and cleaning the gutter. It still requires some work to stop the leaks. However, that can only be done when the weather is dry, and the seams to be sealed are dry! So, not today.

Instead, we went to the neighboring town of Selby to eat fish & chips. Such a traditional dish must be eaten here at least once. So we went to a specialized restaurant and enjoyed the simple, greasy meal following the recommendations of the Finnish Heart Association. Now I can continue my cholesterol medication to the max with a clear conscience!

After returning from our gourmet trip to Selby, inspired by the rainy weather, we each focused on our important tasks: I took a nap! I woke up just in time to listen to the first concert. Elsi’s (9 years old) singing teacher organized her first concert via WhatsApp for us. It was an absolutely delightful event!

In the mood of the concert, I continued my nap and woke up a couple of hours later to see if it was time to write the blog and then enjoy some red wine with cheese and grapes.

Raising his glass, he said: brothers, to the point!
