June 1st
The heat doesn’t bother you here. In the morning, it starts off at around twenty degrees Celsius. During the day, the temperature is over 15 degrees. Of course, it’s not over 20! But that doesn’t bother us… in fact, quite the opposite. Heat exceeding 25 degrees is too much.
For breakfast, coffee, yogurt, bread, and pills. Remember to take the pills. On this trip, I forgot them for a few days! I’m not going to admit this to my doctor!
We packed our and Jette’s suitcases in Tellu and set off. You can vote at the Manchester Conference Centre and we are voting citizens! Democracy only works when people get to vote… so make sure to vote too!
We took a bus from a park-and-ride on the edge of the city to Manchester City center. For a while, we searched for the stop for line 87. Of course, we found it and paid 2 pounds per person for the half-hour journey to Manchester Piccadilly station. A ten-minute walk later, and at the entrance of the Manchester Conference Centre, there was a guide to the polling station. I’ve voted abroad once in my life. If I recall correctly, it was in 2011 in Melbourne.
I keep my votes secret – although I believe most readers know which party’s candidate I voted for. I was happy to encourage a talented young woman to continue her work in European politics!
The return to the car went smoothly. We got the car ready to go, checked out a suitable route to our accommodation in Holyhead – near the ferry terminal. We found the place without any issues. Once we arrived, we admired the scent of the sea and the open landscape for a moment. We made pesto pasta for dinner and went to the nearby South Stack lighthouse to watch the sunset over the Irish Sea. There we saw and heard quite a number of seabirds, seals, and tourists. The place was definitely worth seeing, and the sunset was absolutely stunning. The northern wind was so cool and rather strong that our group, equipped with slightly lighter gear, decided to head back to the campsite before dark, where we got electricity for the car and a bit of heating with it!
Today’s blog post was written with a slightly larger group – meaning I’m writing and Jette & Eva are giving valuable advice on the writing style!
Tomorrow to Ireland. The green island calls the wanderer. On the shopping list: a lower air mattress + pump, a bottle of whiskey, an adapter… And when we move back to the EU area, we’ll update these things as well! Until then, see you soon!
