Manilva – Orihuela Costa

April 26th

What a fantastic shower this morning. The water came with such pressure that even my poor skin felt it. The facilities at the campground were really comprehensive and high-quality. The only drawback was the swimming pool, which didn’t open until 12:00.

Breakfast outdoors felt a bit cramped. Surrounded by other campers, with only a few meters between us, I longed for more personal space.

After breakfast, we packed up and hit the road. The brisk southwesterly wind helped our journey and significantly reduced fuel consumption (8.5 l/100km). The terrain gradually became more rugged. Fields covered with light-colored canvases stretched across vast areas along the route. We speculated about what might be growing beneath those canvases!

We chose the toll road route, which considerably sped up our journey. We didn’t want to take the winding coastal road. We’ve seen enough beaches on this trip already. The inland with its mountains is calling us more!

At a rest stop, we realized our gas supply was running low. I swapped the bottle only to find that it was empty too. No gas means no coffee! We settled for juice instead of coffee for a snack. The gas running out also led to a change in our route plan. We decided to drive quickly to Olli and Mani’s place in Orihuela Costa city – we’ll get the help we need from them – the gas bottles will be refilled tomorrow.

We enjoyed the evening together on their rooftop terrace. Jedi and Stella charmed us once again with their cheerfulness and spontaneity. Truly wonderful kids! And their parents are equally wonderful. It’s a real privilege to meet them here. Olli and Mani used to live in our Paimenenkallio house when we lived in Kesäniemi!

Our hosts grilled us an amazing dinner, after which we had some time to write and edit photos while they put the kids to bed. Absolutely fantastic, all of it!
