April 19th
As we were leaving, I took my mother’s sister Elvin’s school songbook from 1924, signed by her, along. At home, I slightly customized it so I could send it to my cousin’s daughter in Canada. Now it’s been sent. It might have to be sniffed by drug dogs – maybe even opened by officials.
Finding the post office was the last activity of the day. Otherwise, we followed our habits and tried to get lost as often as possible. We strolled around Porto’s historic surroundings, ate, and had coffee like proper tourists. We even bought a couple of postcards, which we sent to our grandchildren. Getting cards by mail is still a nice thing.
We met Maria at her home. Naturally, we took advantage of her apartment’s shower. Since our RV’s shower only runs cold now. The water heater has terminated its service agreement. I haven’t become an electrician yet, so we’re waiting for the right professional to fix it.
This city is nice. People are really nice and friendly. We also accidentally stumbled upon the local art school, where we got to observe the students working. The step count for the day was 12,500, which almost meets the daily exercise quota. The rest of the day will probably be spent lounging in the car now that the blog is written.
