Cawood – Lincoln – Brantham

June 21th

You can celebrate the Midnight Sun this way too! At a pub somewhere in southeastern England. Eva had flounder and I had sirloin steak. The good thing was that the side dish consisted of whole boiled potatoes. The fish had been processed so much that it was hard to recognize it as flounder, except for its shape. The meat was dense and somewhat overcooked. Both dishes had been sparingly seasoned. We both added salt to our meals. Otherwise, the atmosphere in the pub was quite nice.

I managed to watch what looked like walking football in honor of Midsummer, with people in the official kits of France and the Netherlands walking on the field for 90 minutes. Some of them might have even gotten cold there! None of them were certainly feeling hot. The 0-0 game was one of the dullest tournament matches I’ve ever seen. Perhaps the players were in a bit of a Midsummer mood too!

Tellu is parked behind the pub with a couple of other motorhomes. This peaceful little village will probably let travelers sleep undisturbed. The journey here from Jette’s place took longer than expected. We ended up on a route with a lot of traffic due to roadworks. We were probably stuck in queues for over an hour, moving at a slow walking pace. But why rush in a ready-made world? Our motto is to arrive safely!

In the morning, we had a leisurely start from Jette’s place. For the second time, we had berries with yogurt and muesli. And they still tasted good. We packed our things quite routinely, and Jette had kindly taken care of some of our laundry, washing and drying it. She’s such a lovely friend, and it was so nice to rest and take a break from our vacation at her place. I already miss her quiet, modest, and empathetic presence. Thank you, Jette, for a wonderful stop on our journey.

Tomorrow morning, we’ll head to the harbor. The estimated travel time of half an hour might turn out to be longer. So, we’ll set off early. Now, it’s time to sleep to be ready for driving again in the morning. Happy Midsummer to all our friends!
