Dumfries – Cawood

June 19th

Well, we woke up anyway, even though the chiffchaff was completely silent. The pigeons, on the other hand, were not silent. They seem to have this understanding of the world that the entire creation wants to hear their cooing. You can hear it in the morning, during the day, and in the evening. On the other hand, they might have up to four broods a year. You really need to do some cooing to manage that!

Our overnight neighbor packed up his bike in the morning and sped off before us. We weren’t in a rush to leave. As long as we were on the move before eleven, everything was fine.

Once we got going, we headed straight to a store near Leeds where we managed to get a few adapters, a couple of wines, bread, fruit, and berries. We also bought a couple of boxes of sushi for lunch. We hadn’t had any sushi on this trip. In the parking lot, we sat on Tellu’s comfortable seats, ate the sushi, and then hit the road. We arrived at Jette’s place roughly at the time we had indicated.

I was so exhausted after the five-hour drive that I took a little nap. Eva started on the laundry and settled with Jette on the outdoor furniture to catch up. As the day turned into evening, we headed to the local pub to try out their food and beers. Both were particularly good. The portions were British-sized, meaning some of them went home with us in a doggy bag. The pub also had a brilliant staff, and the local football fans were intently watching the Scotland vs. Switzerland European Championship match.

We walked back to Jette’s, where I caught the last few minutes of the game. I somehow hoped for a Scottish victory… I’ve grown quite fond of that bunch!
