June 5th
Soon the days will start getting shorter. There are just over 6 months until Christmas! However, it will rain in the morning. And for sure, the tire on the bike is flat! Despite everything, life goes on – and quite well at that!
After our morning routines (the tent was packed up in record time and sheltered just as it started drizzling), we drove to a campsite near Galway (O´Hallorans Caravan Park). Along the way, we enjoyed the smells of food production, had excellent coffee and pastries at the Rós Café, dodged trucks and buses on narrow roads, and had to reverse out of roundabout exits back into the roundabout (we avoided the toll road…!). The weather alternated between rain and sunshine, but it rained more often than not!
This year, Galway is hosting a folk music festival. In honor of that, after an excellent meal of ribs and Atlantic salmon at Capones, Eva and I took a bus into the city’s bustle. Numerous Irish bands were playing in various pubs. We visited several of them throughout the evening. The downside of such bar-hopping is that you end up drinking more beer than usual. To prevent my gout from flaring up too badly, I replaced beer with an Irish Coffee at the last – and best – pub.
Opinions about music can vary. I believe that live music is the best music. Today, the musicians gave their best, and we ended the evening at The Kings Head pub, where a rather skilled quartet played a fantastic mix of Irish tunes. With our hands sore from rhythmic clapping, we took a taxi back to the camper van after dark. The taxi fare wasn’t too bad: €12!
Tomorrow, we will probably be at Outi’s. Until then, it’s good to get some sleep. Let’s be kind to each other. Good night!
