Cawood and the surrounding area

May 31st

We had to be at a place half an hour away by 10 AM. My internal clock had switched to an early wake-up mode. So, before six, my eyelid fluttered, and waking thoughts started to take over from the dream world. Following a slow waking-up routine, we got up and prepared for breakfast with Jette.

We set off in good time, driving two cars to the Ford service center in the neighboring town, only to find out that their service bay couldn’t accommodate such a large vehicle. I was somewhat irritated by their operation. They had received all the necessary details about the car, accepted the appointment, and even sent a confirmation email. Shrugging and spreading their hands… such service at a Ford dealership!

We returned to square one, stopping by a smaller, less formal garage (Metcalf Autos, Sherburn in Elmet) where two guys who looked like real mechanics were working. They promised to check if Tellu was roadworthy by three o’clock. While waiting for our appointment, we enjoyed an omelet lunch at Jette’s place.

We returned to the garage as agreed at three in the afternoon. The guys waved us directly into the repair shop and checked the tires, bearings, and drivetrain without finding any significant issues. Tellu was cleared for departure to Ireland. Apparently, we will be driving to Manchester tomorrow to vote and then continue our journey to the Emerald Isle.

I really like those overall-wearing guys who look like their job. Black oily grease here and there on their hands, a cap on their head, and a cigarette in their mouth. Real workers, not some stockbrokers!
